Naturalness reads as expensive right now, and short nails carry it better than any extension. The one thing short length does not forgive is sloppiness: the free edge and the cuticle have to be clean, because on a small plate every imperfection sits in plain view.
Nude is the safest ground, but modern nude is not one shade on all ten nails. Alternate matte and gloss, run a soft ombré into a pastel, or give a single nail a painting while the rest stay bare.
